East Hartford-based United Technologies Corp. will invest $115 million in additive manufacturing and engine compressor research facilities at a new $60 million innovation hub that debuted Friday in East Hartford.

The innovation hub, on the United Technologies Research Center (UTRC) campus, will be formally unveiled this afternoon by Gov. Dannel P. Malloy and UTC CEO Greg Hayes. It includes 185,000 square feet of new and renovated office and laboratory space. UTRC is the research arm of UTC.

In addition to the innovation hub, UTC will invest an additional $75 million in an additive manufacturing center that will speed up deployment of metal and polymer additive technologies. The $40 million for an engine compressor research facility will enable UTC and Pratt & Whitney to develop engine compressor technology for future commercial and military engines, said David Parekh, corporate vice president of research and UTRC director.

Parekh cited a commitment to developing "breakthrough technologies" at the new facilities here in Connecticut.

"Global innovation at UTC begins right here at the Research Center in East Hartford," he said.
