UTC Aerospace Systems, a unit of Farmington-based United Technologies Corp., will join with Northrop Grumman Corp. in coordinating technology development for shared customers.

The initiative was announced at the Paris Air Show and involves the two companies aligning their technology investments on key products and systems in order to develop and deliver advanced but affordable technologies to customers they share.

Dave Gitlin, UTC Aerospace Systems president, said the companies can create value by collaborating, and accelerate innovation.

Greg Manuel, Northrop Grumman's vice president, global supply chain, said the firms will work to discover "where we can leverage each other's strengths, and together fine-tune our focus and investments."
