Bloomfield nonprofit Foodshare has named Jason Jakubowski president & CEO effective July 31, following a nationwide search.

Jakubowski is vice president of external relations at Hospital for Special Care (HSC) in Hartford and New Britain. Before that, he worked as director of corporate and community development at Charter Oak State College in New Britain. He has more than 15 years of experience in public health, public affairs, nonprofit leadership and community relations, Foodshare said.

He also recently completed a two-year term as chairman of the board at Community Health Resources in Windsor, and serves as the vice chairman of the board at Leadership Greater Hartford.

Tom Buckingham, Foodshare board chairman, said Jakubowski's experience has prepared him to lead an agency charged with coordinating response to hunger in the community.

In January, former Foodshare CEO James Arena-DeRosa resigned suddenly for personal reasons.

Foodshare is the Feeding America food bank serving Connecticut's Hartford and Tolland counties, where 127,000 people struggle with hunger.
