Windsor's CRIS Radio adding Norwalk studio

Windsor nonprofit CRIS Radio said Friday it is expanding into Norwalk with a fifth regional studio.

The radio reading service is making a formal announcement Monday with a ribbon cutting and tour of the new studio.

Improved broadcast technology is enabling CRIS Radio to expand its service in lower Fairfield County. The nonprofit will use recordings of articles published in local newspapers and the New York Times Metro edition for people who are blind or unable to read due to a print disability or medical condition.

CRIS' 300 volunteers operate its broadcast center in Windsor and regional studios in Danbury, Norwich, Trumbull and West Haven. In addition to volunteer news readers, the expansion is made possible by the city of Norwalk, the Goodnow, Schnurmacher, and Fairfield County Community foundations.
