OCC: Electric supplier customers' price spread climbed in May

Eversource and Avangrid residential customers who are contracted with third-party electricity suppliers paid a total of $3.4 million more in May than they would have under standard offer pricing from the utilities, according to a monthly report from the Office of Consumer Counsel.

About 64 percent of supplier customers in Eversource's territory paid more than standard offer during the month, up from 44.5 percent last May. Meanwhile, 41.5 percent of supplier customers in Avangrid's territory paid more than the standard offer, up from 36.6 percent, according to the OCC report released Friday.

Eversource customers paid $3.2 million more while Avangrid customers paid $207,110 more.

From June 2016 to May 2017, Connecticut's residential customers paid a total of $66.7 million over the standard offer, up from $62.6 million in the comparable rolling-year period.

Meanwhile. suppliers served 28 percent of Eversource customers in the recent month, down from 32 percent, while suppliers served 35.8 percent of Avangrid customers, down from 36.8 percent, the OCC said.
