Iora Health opens first CT primary care office in Hartford

Boston-based Iora Health last week opened its first practice in Connecticut in the Avery Heights senior living community in Hartford.

Iora Primary Care is located at 1000 Avery Heights, Suite 100 and is accepting Medicare patients, primarily those 65 and older. Dr. Rina Garcia is on staff and another doctor is scheduled to arrive next month, according to Kathleen Haley, vice president of marketing and communications for Iora.

"There's an access problem in Hartford" for older patients, Haley said of Iora's entrance to the market, the first of more offices likely to come, she said.

"We intentionally keep our practices small" to be welcoming, she said. "We'll build more as we fill up."

Iora and Hamden-based WellCare of Connecticut, a subsidiary of WellCare Health Plans Inc., also announced a partnership for Iora to provide its relationship-based care to WellCare's Medicare Advantage members in Connecticut. Iora said its primary care relationship-based model includes a team focus involving the patient, loved ones, doctor, health coach and behavioral health specialist.
