CTNext awards $54K to 5 startups

CTNext has awarded $54,000 to five top Connecticut startups at its Entrepreneur Innovation Awards.

Rumble Helmet, a smart bicycle helmet, and Deo2Go, a topical delivery device for deodorant, lip balm and sunscreen, were among the winners earning $10,000 awards.

Based in Bridgeport, Rumble Helmet, which communicates cyclists intentions in traffic to other travelers, also won $2,000 as the judges favorite. For the second year in a row, Deo2Go, of Norwalk, won $2,000 as the crowd favorite.

The other three winners are EZ ICE of Enfield, which provides a manufacturing kit for a custom, portable backyard ice rink; FallCall Solutions of Stratford, which offers a telemonitoring system for Apple Watch and other mobile systems for elders and caregivers; and Sitrep, a system for solving heating, ventilation and air conditioning problems.

The winners outpaced five other startups and entrepreneurs as they each presented their project ideas to a panel of judges. The awards were presented Thursday at The Space in Hamden.

CTNext has now held 13 total events in Connecticut, awarding a total of $642,000 to 58 unique companies.
