Fewer Hartford area homeowners late paying mortgages in July

Fewer homeowners in the Hartford region were behind on their mortgages in July, mirroring a continuing national trend, CoreLogic said Tuesday.

About 5 percent of the region's mortgages were delinquent by at least 30 days, including those in foreclosure this past July, compared with 5.8 percent a year ago. Homeowners in serious delinquency (90 or more days past due) totaled 2.2 percent in July vs. 2.8 percent in the year-ago period, the property analytics firm reported.

Nationally, 4.6 percent of mortgages were in some stage of delinquency in July 2017, just shy of a 1 percentage point decrease compared to 5.5 percent a year ago.

Statewide, July's rate of foreclosure also dropped to 1.1 percent compared to 1.4 percent in the year ago period.
