Hartford area home sales higher in Sept.

Hartford area home sales rose in September while median sale prices slipped, Realtors say.

Sales of single-family houses rose 2.8 percent last month to 1,106 units vs. 1,076 sold in Sept. 2016, the Greater Hartford Association of Realtors said.

Median price for those houses fell 3.5 percent last month to $221,000 vs. $229,000 a year ago, GHAR said.

Among condos and townhomes, their sales climbed 9.9 percent, to 256 units vs. 233 a year earlier. Their median price rose 9.9 percent to $149,450 from $136,000 in Sept. 2016, Realtors said.

"As the fall market starts, it's typical to see a slowdown in sales and inventory, however the unknown of the state budget seems to be exacerbating that slowdown," GHAR President Carl Lantz said in a statement.

Through the first nine months of this year, single-family sales are up 2.8 percent, to 1,106 units, while median sale price is flat at $224,900.

Year-to-date, area condo/townhome sales are up 7 percent, to 2,130 units sold. Their median price is 6.8 percent greater, at $154,900.
