Hartford yoga studio closes suddenly downtown

Natasha Roggi, owner of Hartford Sweat

Hartford Sweat, a downtown yoga and fitness studio, closed its doors suddenly Thursday, after the owner says she struggled to sustain the business.

In a note to customers on the studio's website, Natasha Roggi says "none" of the efforts to sustain the business, which originally opened as a Bikram Yoga studio in 2012, "have been fruitful enough to afford us the ability to continue."

Roggi, who could not be reached for comment, reinvented the business at 777 Main St. in 2015 after Bikram was forced to close in its original Hartford location.

Roggi also was a 40 under Forty award recipient in 2015.

"Please know that I have done everything in my power to keep the studio alive – for the sake of all our beloved squad members and for the city of Hartford itself," Roggi wrote in her website note. "The gifts of yoga and health are my passion, and I followed my dreams by opening our studio here in Hartford. Making the decision to close has been tremendously difficult and painful."

The Yoga studio is the second downtown business to close its doors this week. On Wednesday, a Hartford Superior Court judge ordered Nix's restaurant at 40 Front St. to close after failing to pay back rent.
