Texas realty investment trust buys New Haven Marriott hotel

A Texas-based company has acquired the 207-room Courtyard New Haven at Yale as part of a four-hotel portfolio totaling $164 million, the company announced Tuesday.

Summit Hotel Properties Inc., a real estate investment trust based in Austin, said the hotel at 30 Whalley Ave., adjacent to Yale's campus, is the only Marriott-branded hotel within roughly 10 miles of downtown New Haven.

The property's public spaces and guestrooms were renovated in 2016, the company said.

Summit said it also acquired the Hilton Garden Inn Boston/Waltham, the Residence Inn Cleveland Downtown and the Homewood Suites by Hilton Tucson/St. Philip's Plaza University in the transaction, adding a combined total of 652 guestrooms.

The publicly traded company owns 83 hotels in 26 states with a total of 12,242 guest rooms.
