Rory McIlroy is scheduled to play in his second Travelers Championship in June.

Rory McIlroy, a four-time major champion with 13 PGA TOUR victories, has committed to play in the 2018 Travelers Championship, tournament organizers said Wednesday.

This will be his second appearance at the tournament. Last year, he tied for 17th place.

"I made the comment after last year's tournament that I would definitely be back, and I'm delighted that my 2018 schedule will allow me to do that," McIlroy said. "I love everything about the Travelers Championship: the golf course, the positive impact it has on the community and the support we receive from the fans."

After a remarkable amateur career, McIlroy turned professional in 2007 and has since won 22 tournaments around the world. A 28-year-old from Northern Ireland, he has held the world's No. 1 ranking for 95 weeks, and is currently ranked No. 8.

Andy Bessette, executive vice president and chief administrative officer at Travelers, said he expects fans to root for McIlroy in June.

The championship will be held June 18-24 at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell. Tournament organizers donate 100 percent of net proceeds to charities. Travelers, a property and casualty insurance provider, became the tournament's title sponsor in 2007.
