Yale New Haven Hospital has been named one of the country's best places to work for commters, along with Yale University.

Yale and Yale New Haven Hospital are among the country's most commuter-friendly places to work, according to a new list.

The hospital and university were among more than 200 employers — and the only two in Connecticut — on the 2018 list of Best Workplaces for Commuters, compiled by the University of South Florida's Center for Urban Transportation Research.

Employers must offer commuter-friendly programs such as discounted transit passes, teleworking, secure bicycle storage and emergency ride home programs to qualify, the center said.

"We are extremely proud of our Transportation Demand Management programs that save employees time, money and stress," said Rodney Slaughter, YNHH manager of parking and transportation.

The hospital said it offers shuttle services, public transportation subsidies, car- and van-pooling and other alternatives to single-occupancy vehicle use.

Workplaces must apply annually for the designation after meeting a set of national standards. Others making the list include Google, IBM and Bayer as well as Harvard and Stanford universities.
