Supermarket chain Big Y has signed a lease on a 60,000-square-foot space in Derby's former Walmart Plaza, Calcagni Real Estate said.

CW Landmark, a New Haven-based affiliate of the Cheshire real estate firm, brokered the deal between landlord DLC Management Corp. and the Springfield, Mass. grocer, which announced plans for the Derby store in December.

DLC Management Corp. of Elmsford, N.Y., is redeveloping the 177,000-square-foot shopping center at 656 New Haven Ave., which is slated to open in 2019.

The supermarket will become Big Y's 71st store in Connecticut and Massachusetts and eighth in New Haven County.

Other tenants include Great Expressions Dental, Wells Fargo, Red Wing Shoes, WindowRama, Cold Stone Creamery, T Mobile, Spa World and Advanced Radiology.
