Inbox Health, a New Haven software company that seeks to improve billing systems for doctors' offices, said it has tapped the company founder to be its new CEO.

Blake Walker, who started the company in 2014 and served as chief product officer, will assume his new role immediately, the company's board of directors announced this week. He replaces outgoing CEO Spencer Ewald, who resigned in January.

In his previous role, Walker led the team that created the company's patient communication platform for medical billing companies.

"Blake combines the deep domain knowledge and superb execution abilities we were looking for to lead the company going forward," said board member Matthew Storeygard, an investment director at Connecticut Innovations, the state's venture capital arm, which led a $1.5 million round of seed funding for the company in 2017.

The board also announced the appointment of Charles Gamble as chief operating officer. Gamble founded the enterprise software company Tangoe, which was purchased by a private equity firm last year.

Inbox Health's communication platform for medical billing companies uses text messaging, email and voice technology and technology-enabled mailings to help billing companies and, by extension, physician practices connect with patients to explain and collect the patient-responsible portions of their bills.

The company, which has nine employees at 770 Chapel St. and is growing, has raised $2.5 million to date and works with healthcare providers across the U.S., Walker said in an email.
