Hebrew Senior Care in West Hartford has named Denise Peterson as its new president and CEO.

Peterson was most recently senior vice president and chief nursing officer for Trinity Health of New England. She previously held similar roles and other management positions at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center, Hartford HealthCare, Danbury Hospital and Waterbury Hospital.

Peterson succeeds Gary Jones, who has served as interim president and CEO since Aug. 2016, leading the organization through its Chapter 11 reorganization, from which it emerged last summer.

"Mr. Jones was the ideal leader through the transitional period given his extensive nonprofit experience coupled with his legal background and commitment to the Jewish community," said Richard Robinson, president of the Hebrew Senior Care board of trustees. "We are enormously grateful to him for his leadership during this critical time."

Hebrew provides specialized health and living services for older adults and their families, including acute medical and behavioral hospital units as a member of the Connecticut Senior Hospital Alliance with Wallingford-based Masonicare; an outpatient physician practice specializing in geriatrics; senior day center; dementia services; assisted living services; and a senior living community, Hoffman SummerWood.

Hebrew Senior Care operates under the same roof as The Hebrew Center for Health and Rehabilitation, but the two are separate entities. The latter is a for-profit skilled-nursing facility owned by National Health Care Associates Inc. Hebrew Senior Care is a new name, rebranded from Hebrew HealthCare after it emerged from bankruptcy last summer.
