Royal Pez dispensers fetch nearly $10K for charity

A Pez candy dispenser set featuring the likenesses of Prince Harry and his fiancée Meghan Markle recently sold for $9,893 in an auction for charity, the Orange-based candy maker said Monday.

Pez created the one-of-a-kind royal wedding souvenir to raise money for the Make-A-Wish UK Foundation, which grants wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions.

Pez said 25 bidders submitted 46 bids in an eBay auction that came down to the final minutes. The highest bidder hailed from New Jersey, said the company. Bidding opened on May 7 and closed on May 13.

"We're excited to have partnered with Make-A-Wish for this exciting charity auction and look forward to seeing the proceeds put to work in support of the important mission of Make-A-Wish," Pez CEO Christian Jegen said in a statement.

The winning bid falls short of the more than $13,000 shelled out in 2011 for dispensers featuring Prince William and Kate Middleton before their wedding.
