Jerry Franklin, president and CEO of the Connecticut Public Broadcasting Network, will retire in 2019 after leading the multimedia public broadcasting company for 33 years.

Franklin informed Connecticut Public's board of trustees on Tuesday his retirement will take effect June 30, 2019 while a committee conducts a national search for his replacement.

"I cannot think of a better place to have spent the bulk of my career than leading Connecticut Public from its strong past and into a bullish future," said Franklin, who previously worked at WGBH- and WGBY-TV in Boston and Springfield, Mass.

The network, home to Connecticut Public Television (CPTV), Connecticut Public Radio (WNPR) and Connecticut Public Learning, won several awards under Franklin's leadership.

Over his tenure, CPTV won two National Daytime Emmy Awards, 98 Regional Emmy Awards, seven CINE Golden Eagle Awards and one Gracie Allen Award. Meanwhile, WNPR earned two George Foster Peabody Awards, two Gracie Allen Awards and over 60 Associated Press Awards, among others.

The network's board chairman Tom Barnes said the year ahead provides an opportunity to celebrate his many accomplishments. Barnes also commended Franklin for spearheading a "transformational role" in expanding the organization's future.

A Farmington native, Franklin earned Hartford Business Journal's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014.

Connecticut public radio station WNPR in recent months became the Hartford region's news-talk leader. WNPR, at 90.5 FM, surpassed WTIC, at 1080 AM, for the first time in September in 24-hour overall market share ratings.
