Windsor manufacturer Aero Gear has begun occupying a 24,000-square-foot expansion for producing gearbox assemblies for civilian and military aircraft engines, authorities say.

Doug Rose, who founded Aero Gear in 1982, said his company now has 69,000 square feet of production, distribution and office space and about 175 workers at 1050 Day Hill Road. The expansion included a new lobby, conference room and offices.

Aero Gear's customers include Pratt & Whitney Co., Lockheed Martin Sikorsky Aircraft, Boeing and General Electric Co., among others.

"In trying to meet the increased orders from our customers, it became obvious that additional people and machines were necessary, and the only way to accommodate this was through enlarging our physical space," Rose said. "Although we have clients around the world, the expansion demonstrates that we are committed to the long-haul in Connecticut."

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy and DECD Commissioner Catherine Smith are scheduled to attend a June 12 dedication at 11 a.m. for Aero Gear's new facilities.
