TRUMPF Inc. has expanded its training center by 18,000 square feet.

Farmington machine tool manufacturer TRUMPF Inc. has expanded its training center by 18,000 square feet as part of a $3 million investment meant to grow its training base for customers and future workers.

TRUMPF, which produces metal fabrication and industrial laser technology, now houses a 40,000-square-foot facility for specialized training on its machines.

Under the expansion, TRUMPF is equipped to train 5,000 students, up from 2,000, through 630 training events a year. The training floor provides 13 TRUMPF machines such as tube lasers, material handling and material storage systems, among others.

The facility also has 14 classrooms and two virtual learning classrooms, offering certified courses for customer advancement.

TRUMPF also offers aspiring employees a tuition-free, full-time paid apprenticeship program.

"With the digital transformation of manufacturing and society, we need to take action to prepare our workforce," said Burke Doar, senior vice president of TRUMPF. "As a family- owned company, we recognize our responsibility with regard to this change and want to support our customers in this endeavor as well."

TRUMPF officials celebrated the expansion effort during a ceremony last week.
