Travelers CFO Jay S.Benet will step down Sept. 1.
Daniel S. Frey will succeed Benet as Travelers' executive vice president and CFO.

Travelers Chief Financial Officer Jay S.Benet will step down next month after about 16 years in the position, the property and casualty insurer said.

Benet will leave his post effective Sept. 1, but will remain on Travelers' senior leadership team as vice chairman. Daniel S. Frey, CFO of Travelers' personal insurance segment, will succeed Benet thereafter as executive vice president and CFO.

Benet has been with Travelers since 1990 and previously served several roles for about 14 years at Hartford's Coopers & Lybrand, which eventually merged with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in 1998, according to his LinkedIn page.

Travelers said Benet will support the transition with Frey, who has served in key financial management roles with Travelers for more than 15 years.

Frey's time in finance and accounting spans three decades, with prior experience as CFO of Travelers' claim and field management organizations and CFO of Spalding Sports Worldwide. His career began at accounting firm Deloitte & Touche.
