Trader Joe's will open Sept. 6 at 1510 Pleasant Valley Road in Manchester.

Grocery store chain Trader Joe's said it plans to open its eighth location in Manchester next month.

The grocer recently announced it will open Sept. 6 at 1510 Pleasant Valley Road in the town's Plaza at Buckland Hills.

Retailer Eastern Mountain Sports vacated the space last year after filing for bankruptcy and was then acquired by British retailer Sports Direct International.

Trader Joe's brands itself as a "reflection of the neighborhood in which it resides," with store fronts and product arrangements specific to each location, according to its website.

The California-based grocer currently has Connecticut locations at 1489 New Britain Ave. in West Hartford and others in Stamford, Fairfield, Danbury, Darien, Orange and Westport. It has 479 stores across the U.S.

The grocer also recently opened a distribution center in Bloomfield, creating 675 new jobs at the 690,000-square-foot site.

Manchester has added at least three national retailers and grocers in recent months.

As reported Thursday, Big box retailer At Home opened a store Wednesday in 98,600 square feet at 1181 Tolland Turnpike in Burrs Corners Plaza where Pilgrim Furniture & Mattress City was formerly housed.

California-based specialty retailer Cost Plus World Market opened earlier this month in Manchester's former Kaoud Oriental Rugs store in The Manchester Collection plaza at 179 Hale Road.
