Connecticut homebuilders in July filed for more permits to erect houses, condos and apartments than the previous month and a year earlier.

The state Department of Economic and Community Development Thursday released the federal Census Bureau's monthly tally of housing permits issued in 104 cities and towns showing 395 permits granted in July, 55 more than were issued the same month last year. In June, those municipalities issued 296 permits.

Through the first seven months of this year, in-state housing permits are running slightly ahead of the volume tallied for the same period a year ago. However, this year's seven-month count is behind the permit count posted in the same period of 2016 and 2015, data shows.
