North Branford manufacturer buys Midwest firm

Brook & Whittle, a North Branford maker of labels and packaging, has purchased Prime Package & Label of St. Louis, expanding its reach to the Midwest and Southeast.

The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Private equity firm Snow Phipps Group holds a majority stake in Brook & Whittle, located at 260 Branford Rd. The company makes pressure-0sensitive and shrink-sleeve prime labels for the consumer and medical markets. The purchase of Prime Package & Label, which has plants in St. Louis and Nashville, expands the Connecticut company's reach and diversifies its offerings, executives said.

"We are thrilled to partner with Prime and enthusiastic about the opportunities ahead of us," said Don Sturdivant, chairman of Brook & Whittle and operating partner at Snow Phipps. "Prime increases Brook & Whittle's presence in personal care and household and provides a Midwestern and Southeastern manufacturing footprint that allows us to serve a larger customer base more effectively."

New York City-based Snow Phipps acquired Brook & Whittle in 2017 and the Prime deal is the first add-on acquisition under the new ownership. Brook & Whittle currently operates three production facilities, in North Branford, Guilford and Amherst, N.Y.
