New Haven BIZ to honor influential women in biz

As executives, entrepreneurs and leaders, women play a more important role in the economy and the public life of New Haven and Connecticut than ever before. While there are thousands of female leaders, and their numbers are growing daily, some stand out from the crowd because of their achievements and commitment to lead by example and encourage others on the path to success.

New Haven BIZ will honor the achievements of six of these leaders as part of a unique awards initiative: Women Who Mean Business, debuting in the March/April 2019 print edition of New Haven BIZ.

Nominations are now being accepted from New Haven BIZ readers for the awards, which will honor six female leaders across a broad spectrum of endeavors, including health care, manufacturing, education, technology, entrepreneurship and the professions.

The women will be profiled in the print magazine's inaugural Women Who Mean Business issue, to be published March 1. Their achievements will be celebrated at an awards luncheon to follow in the spring (date and location TBA).

"The purpose of Women Who Mean Business isn't simply to spotlight the success of women executives whose organizations generate the most dollars or employ the most workers," explained NHB Editor Michael C. Bingham. "More than that, it's about discovering women leaders — some previously overlooked, perhaps; others not — who have blazed new trails to success across the whole spectrum of industries and professions.

"We also hope to recognize and honor female role models who mentor other women to help them grow in their careers," he added.

To be eligible nominees must be residents of Connecticut who work in organizations headquartered or doing business in one of the 41 municipalities comprising the New Haven BIZ service area throughout south-central Connecticut (including all of New Haven and parts of Fairfield and Middlesex counties). Self-nominations are permitted.

Deadline for nominations is Jan. 11, 2019. The nomination form may be accessed here.

"We're very excited to introduce this new initiative to highlight the achievements of the region's most accomplished and admired businesswomen," said NHB Editor Bingham. "And we look forward to opening a two-way conversation with our readers and the larger business community about what makes them so important to the life of New Haven and Connecticut."
