Connecticut's unemployment rate remained flat in October at 4.2 percent despite the state gaining jobs, the state labor department reported Thursday.
The state added 1,500 net jobs during the month and now has an estimated 1.7 million seasonally adjusted jobs, the Department of Labor (DOL) said. Connecticut has an estimated 80,000 jobless residents, which remained unchanged from September, DOL said.
Six of the state's 10 major industry "supersectors" gained jobs last month and three declined.
The financial sector added the most jobs -- 900 -- followed by professional and business services (700). Manufacturing and government -- including federal, state and local employment -- sectors each added 300 jobs, labor officials said.
The trade, transportation and utilities sector reported another fall in jobs, shedding 400 last month. Other services and leisure and hospitality lost 300 and 200 jobs, respectively.
Connecticut's jobless rate dropped 4.5 percent in August and 3.7 percent in September. DOL said the 500-job decrease in September was revised down 900 to a loss of 1,400 over the month.
"A relatively quiet month in October offset losses we experienced in September," said Andy Condon, the labor department's director of the Office of Research. "Most employment supersectors are showing annual growth with the exception of the trade, information and government supersectors."
For the year, nonfarm jobs have grown by 22,300, or 1.3 percent.
