U.S. Pain Foundation renews CT charity license

Middletown's U.S. Pain Foundation, which recently disclosed its former CEO's alleged misuse of nearly $2 million of nonprofit funds, says it's made a step forward on its road to recovery.

The foundation said its charitable solicitation registration, which had expired, was renewed by the Department of Consumer Protection. A DCP spokeswoman on Monday confirmed the renewal had been issued on Jan. 3.

U.S. Pain has another hurdle to clear. An investigation launched last year by outgoing Attorney General George P. Jepsen's office remained open as of Monday, according to a spokeswoman, who declined further comment on the matter.

The investigation was first reported by Pain News Network, which said it was related to financial irregularities and embezzlement.
