Yale plans cybersecurity forum

Yale will host the third annual Cyber Leadership Forum Feb. 28 to March 2 in New Haven.

The theme of the 2019 event is "Bridging the Divide: How the Public and Private Sectors Can Address the Cyber Threat Together."

Topics to be discussed include: the technical threat landscape; the regulatory and legal landscape (both domestic and international); the cyber divide across different disciplines; making decisions about cyber-security in a world of uncertainty; and others.

The event was created in 2017 to convene leaders in law, technology, policy, business and academia to drive conversations around critical challenges in cybersecurity and to bridge the divide between and among multiple compartmentalized areas of expertise.

The Forum is aimed at a diverse set of "thought leaders" who confront challenges of bridging the divide between law, technology, and business in cybersecurity. Participants include practitioners from leading law firms, cybersecurity technology experts, policy experts, and academics.

The cost to attend the three-day event is $2,995 per person. Full and partial scholarships are available to "highly qualified cybersecurity professionals" who may lack the wherewithal to attend. Scholarships are primarily for professionals working in government, the nonprofit sector and academia. Applicants who own or work in start-ups or very small businesses may also be considered.

That's the good news. The bad news is that the deadline to apply for scholarship assistance is Thursday, Feb. 7. To apply, petitioners must meet the eligibility criteria and complete an online application outlining experience, qualifications and need.
