Most Connecticut communities saw a continued slide in November in the volume of new-housing permits issued, new state data shows.

There were 255 permits issued in 104 communities sampled in November by the U.S. Census Bureau, down from 324 granted in the same month in 2017, the state Department of Economic and Community Development said Thursday.

Through the first 11 months of 2018, those same cities and towns granted a total of 3,440 permits for single- and multifamily housing, DECD said, citing Census data.

There were 3,522 permits issued in all of 2017. The December permit tally -- to be issued in coming weeks -- is likely to push the full 2018 count past the year-ago tally.

The statewide permit count has fallen each of the last two years.
