Bloomfield Plaza Soon To Get Major Overhaul

11/09/09

Amazing Plaza, one of Bloomfield’s oldest and most visible shopping centers on Park Avenue, near the center of town, is about to undergo a major renovation.

Landlord Levy Properties recently won municipal clearance to spend $2 million to upgrade 9,000 square feet in the center — also called Dollar Dream Plaza, the name of a former lead tenant — into space for a kidney dialysis clinic.

Fresenius Medical Care North America will operate the clinic when it opens next spring, said principal Matthew Levy of West Hartford-based Levy Properties.

Borghesi Building & Engineering Co. is doing the design and construction work.

With the addition of Fresenius as a tenant, the shopping plaza is left with about 8,500 square feet of vacant space that the landlord has begun marketing, Levy said.

Meanwhile, Levy Properties says it has renewed leases for a number of other tenants for the shopping plaza, built sometime in the late ‘50s or early ‘60s.

Sweet Delight, a Jamaican restaurant that acquired the operations of the former Pepper Pot Restaurant, has re-signed for 1,190 square feet.

Retailer Dollar Smart has renewed a lease for 2,600 square feet.

Fresh Farm Market will open a renovated and expanded store in 6,930 square feet in their renewed lease in Amazing Plaza.

Finally, the Bloomfield Coin-Op laundromat renewed its 2,940-square-foot lease in the center.

The Exchange Sold

The Exchange office-retail complex on Route 4, across from University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington, has been sold.

New Boston Fund sold the 250,412-square-foot building to The Acre Group for an undisclosed amount. The property is 80 percent leased.

Jones Lang LaSalle represented New Boston Fund. The New Haven Group represented Acre.

MedOp Expands Lease

MedOp Acquisitions LLC has leased an additional 3,200 square feet in The Old Saybrook Business Park for its expanding medical billing business.

MedOp already occupies 4,200 square feet in the complex of eight buildings at 20 Research Parkwa.

Mill Meadow Development LLC is the landlord.

The Geenty Group, Realtors in Branford represented MedOp in the lease.
