CT’s Cafero to announce political plans

12/21/09

Connecticut House Minority Leader Lawrence Cafero Jr. is set to announce whether he's the latest Republican to seek the party's nomination for governor in 2010.

Cafero is scheduled to make an announcement at 2 p.m. today at the state Capitol, the same time as a special session on the state's budget deficit begins.

The Norwalk attorney has served in the General Assembly since 1993.

Lt. Gov. Michael Fedele and former U.S. Ambassador to Ireland Tom Foley have already announced their plans to seek the Republican nomination, now that Gov. M. Jodi Rell has said she's not seeking another term.

Another Republican, Senate Minority Leader John McKinney of Fairfield, says he'll decide at the beginning of the year whether he will run for the state's top office. (AP)
