Boys & Girls Village

03/01/10

Mission: Boys & Girls Village serves children and families in at-risk situations by strengthening their ability to succeed in life.

Background: Founded in 1942, Boys & Girls Village is a children’s welfare, Stephen A. Joffeeducational and behavioral health agency serving boys and girls and their families from offices in Milford, Bridgeport and Waterbury. The organization serves approximately 1,000 at-risk children and their families in Connecticut each year. It relies on federal, state, and local funding, partial funding from the Connecticut Department of Children & Families, the Connecticut Department of Education, as well as private donations. The agency’s 11-acre Milford campus is the site of The Charles F. Hayden Day School at Boys & Girls Village Day School, a special education program teaching social and learning skills to children with behavioral difficulties. In Milford, the agency also operates Kids I.N.N., a sub-acute, short-term care program for children released from psychiatric care, and the Safe Haven home, a shelter for abused and at-risk children. Extended Day as well as foster and adoptive care programs are operated in Milford. Extended Day Treatment, therapeutic foster care, outpatient clinic and adoption training, support and in-home services are among the programs offered in Bridgeport and Waterbury.

Major Fundraiser: Boys & Girls Village has multiple major fundraisers throughout the year, including the annual awards dinner dance event. The agency also hosts a wine tasting event in April and the annual golf tournament in June. For tickets to fundraiser events contact Events Coordinator Judith Roberts at (203) 877-0300.
