eGen sells first hydro harvester to Pfizer

A Groton green electricity generator company -- eGen - sold its first low-flow, low-impact hydrokinetic energy harvester to Pfizer for installation at the pharmaceutical company's Groton facility.

Under development since 2008, eGen's unique system is capable of operating and generating electricity at water flow speeds as low as 1 ft per second. The system is environmentally friendly and does not require damming or rerouting of water, emit greenhouse gases or harm flora and fauna.

The system will be installed at Pfizer's Groton facility and placed into their cooling water outflow pipe system. The energy generated by the harvester will be used to power equipment at Pfizer's Research and Development facility.

 "We are excited at the opportunity to partner with Pfizer," said Frank Gerlando, President of eGen, in a statement. "We have demonstrated and validated the technology with testing at the University of Connecticut, The University of Rhode Island and on the Mystic River in cooperation with Mystic Seaport. The Pfizer installation represents one of a number of new initiatives that eGen is currently developing."
