$750K on tap for Sprague’s senior housing

07/30/10

Sprague's 34-year-old Shetucket Village senior housing complex is on deck to receive $750,000 in federal funding for repairs and renovations to make it handicapped accessible, officials say.

Congressman Joe Courtney said he secured the funding as part of a transportation Housing and Urban Development appropriations bill passed by the House and awaiting Senate action.

Renovations would be made to Shetucket's three-building, 20-unit complex on West Main Street and Wall Street to bring it to Americans with Disabilities Act standards. The first residents occupied the complex in November 1976.

Work will include insulation, an energy-efficent heating, ventilation and air conditioning system, wheelchair access from all parking areas, and upgrades to meet state building and fire codes.
