AAA: CT to add to Labor Day travel

08/30/10

More Americans are expected to travel over the long Labor Day weekend than did a year ago, with New England expected to outpace the nation, The Associated Press reports.

AAA has projects that about 34.4 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles from home between Thursday Sept. 2 and Monday, Sept. 6. That would be an increase of just under 10 percent from the 31.3 million travelers a year ago.

New England, however, is expected to see an increase of more than 11 percent in Labor Day weekend travel.

More than 90 percent of holiday trips are expected to be by car. Air travel is also expected to increase.
