Training offered for utility careers

09/08/10

The Connecticut Business & Industry Association will offer a worker training program through a federal grant to prepare participants for a new career in utilities.

The 12-week electric and gas training session is paid for by the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act and Northeast Utilities. The session is open to 12 entry-level workers.

The session includes training on alternative energy, the smart grid, the commercial driver's license test and the Construction & Skilled Trades test, which is the standard exam for the utility industry.

Participating businesses include Connecticut Light & Power in Berlin, Yankee Gas in Berlin, Turner Training Group in Vernon, New England Tractor Trailer Training School in Somers, Capital Workforce Partners in Hartford, The Job Funnel in Hartford and Waterbury Opportunities Industrial Center, Inc.
