Bradley conveyor project doubles to $650K

The luggage conveyor renovation at Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks has finished at $650,000, double its original project cost and with more than three years of delays.

The project of renovating three existing outbound systems and constructing a new completely outbound system -- now occupied by American Airlines -- was supposed to cost $325,000 and finish in May 2007. The completed work includes a unified flight and baggage information display system.

The renovation was part of the Connecticut Department of Transportation $200 million airport modernization that began in April 2000, and a newer portion of Terminal A concourse that totals 260,000 square feet.

Subcontractor Nationwide Conveyor Specialists LLC announced the completion in its September e-mail newsletter. Cost overruns put the project price tag above $650,000.

"We stayed committed to this job even with some cost overruns related to some delays; our focus is always to make sure the job is done right.  We are proud to be part of this major renovation," said Richard J. Bugryn, owner and director of operations of Nationwide Conveyor, in a statement.
