Apparel retailer Gap Inc. will close its two stores in the Brass Mill Center mall on Monday, The Waterbury Republican-American reports.
Both the traditional Gap outlet, on the mall's upper level across from Yankee Candle and Littman Jewelers, and its Gap Kids store, on the lower level between Old Navy and The Children's Place, will open for business Monday and then close for good at the end of the business day, the paper says on its Web site, citing an e-mail from company spokeswoman Kimberly Terry.
Terry said the San Francisco-based retailer has not announced any other store closings in Connecticut.
Closing the two locations in Waterbury will leave the company with 19 Gap stores in Connecticut. There are also 16 Old Navy locations in the state and nine Banana Republic outlets.
She would not comment on the number of employees affected by the closings, but said the company is trying to accommodate the displaced workers at other locations across the state.
