Following years of local efforts, the National Park System Advisory Board voted in favor of the unanimous recommendation of the landmark's committee of the National Park System to designate Hartford's Coltsville as a National Historic Landmark.
In a written statement, Gov. M. Jodi Rell praised the decision. "The blue Colt Dome is shining brighter today. It's official: The Colt family 's legacy is now a national landmark. This was a true team effort, and I thank Congressman Larson, Mayor Perez and our entire congressional delegation for their hard work and persistence in getting this designation. This is great news for Hartford and for the entire state of Connecticut."
The recommendation will go to Secretary of the Interior Dirk Kempthorne, the only person legally allowed to designate districts as national landmarks, according to Antoinette Lee, a spokesperson for NPS.
