Reaching The Top

No group of area women business leaders better represent Greater Hartford’s diverse and evolving industries than the eight outstanding women profiled in the Hartford Business Journal’s seventh annual Women in Business issue. Each is demonstrating extraordinary leadership during challenging times through individual initiative and organizational accomplishments.

This year, the Hartford Business Journal has selected executives who are dealing with major change issues occurring in the region’s insurance, real estate and state government sectors, and others who are introducing advanced information technology into the workplace as well as running organizations designed to handle increasing social service needs from families and children throughout the area.

With a considerable population of highly talented women in leadership roles throughout Greater Hartford, limiting the Hartford Business Journal’s selection to eight is a daunting task. For the region, however, it means there exists a broad concentration of exceptionally talented women who will continue to be called upon to lead our region’s businesses and state government in the years ahead.

This year’s remarkable eight, in addition to their talent and experience, demonstrate the intangibles necessary for effective leadership — an ability to communicate a vision, inspire others to act and deliver results. Inside, you’ll read about who and what inspires them, how they view their individual and organization’s role and responsibilities in the community, and how they handle stress and have fun.

They’re not super women. They’re soccer moms, civic leaders, theater and music lovers, volunteers for all sorts of causes, and perpetually in search of some quiet time. In short, they’re women doing super jobs while achieving the often elusive balance of work and family life.

Together, with other leaders drawn from Greater Hartford’s rich talent base, they embody our region’s bright future.
