The Phoenix Companies Inc. today announced the promotion of John T. Mulrain to senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary, effective June 30.
He will replace Tracy L. Rich, who is leaving the Hartford life insurer to become general counsel and corporate secretary at The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America.
Mulrain, 59, currently vice president and counsel, will report to James D. Wehr, Phoenix's president and chief executive officer.
Mulrain has been with Phoenix since 1992 in various capacities in the law department. Before that, he was counsel at former Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Co. (now part of MassMutual Financial Group) and a partner at the law firm of Shipman & Goodwin.
He graduated from the College of the Holy Cross and Yale Law School. He lives in Wethersfield.
