Comcast, AG promote online child safety

06/15/09

Cable operator Comcast and Attorney General Richard Blumenthal are teaming up to promote online child safety using 30-second public service announcements featuring McGruff the Crime Dog.

The TV ad with Blumenthal and McGruff, airing throughout June as part of National Internet Safety Month, highlight steps and tips parents and caretakers can take to protect children and help them avoid online predators, cyber bullying and pornography.

These include installing parental controls, teaching kids to never give out their personal information online and keeping the home computer in a busy, central location.

"The Internet provides profound opportunities - but also perils - for our children," Blumenthal said. "Parents are always the first and last line of defense and we must provide them with all the tools necessary to protect their children."
