The Camelot, a 100% affordable housing development, held a grand opening Monday in West Hartford.
The housing complex, developed on the former site of the West Hartford Inn at 900 Farmington Ave., features 44 one- and two-bedroom deed-restricted apartments for a mix of income levels.
A spokesperson for the developer said they have received applications for 100% of the units, and that those applications are now "in various stages of being approved."
The highly visible nature of the development, located just outside West Hartford Center and three-tenths of a mile from Blue Back Square, makes it an unusual affordable housing project.
The former 52-room hotel and restaurant has been transformed into a residential community, combining the original building superstructure with a new addition.
The facility, on 0.67 acres, features modern kitchens, energy-efficient heating and cooling, a fitness center, community rooms and outdoor space.
Developed by Honeycomb Real Estate Partners, the Camelot offers affordable housing options for individuals and families who qualify. The apartments come with all utilities included — heat, hot water, and electricity — as well as free garage parking, officials said.
Officials said the project was made possible through collaboration with state and local partners. It received financing support from the state Department of Housing, the state Department of Economic and Community Development and the Connecticut Housing Finance Authority, along with assistance from the town and state brownfield grants.
