Proposed affordable housing projects in Hartford and New Britain will receive $1.5 million in state dollars, officials announced.
The loans are a part of a $9.6 million distribution for projects in 10 communities across Connecticut.
In Hartford’s Parkville neighborhood, the nonprofit Hands on Hartford will receive $950,000 to renovate a vacant historic building into a mixed-use development, with 13 one-bedroom apartments. HOH will also set up its headquarters in the building, which is near the Parkville CTfastrak station, and a restaurant will take space on the ground floor, according to the Department of Housing.
In New Britain, Veterans Inc. will receive $550,000 to help convert a vacant Arch Street property into housing for military veterans earning up to half of the area median income. New Britain is co-funding the development, which will also receive an operating subsidy from the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Like the Parkville project, the Arch Street property is also near a CTfastrak station.
