What have been your significant contributions to your organization in the past year?
In every healthcare setting that I’ve worked, I’ve sought to build a reputation among my colleagues of integrity, organization and empathy. I feel personally responsible for setting the tone for my teams and try to push all of us to intentionally and actively cultivate transparency, communication and efficiency so that we may best serve our patients.
For instance, in my current role with Connecticut Children’s, I have successfully advocated for a new standard of accessibility for patients by adding translated resources for multilingual families and increasing accommodations for patients struggling to comply with our virtual services.
Tell us about a challenge in your job that you were able to overcome.
Upon joining our clinic, I realized that we were providing interpretation for bilingual parents during their visit, but not for important written communications such as instructions on using our virtual software or appointment changes and reminders. I immediately sought the necessary resources to correct this, so that all our families can receive the same level of care.
How has COVID-19 changed the way you do your job?
Initially, several of our patients either struggled with our virtual visit software or were unable to attend appointments because of a lack of internet or devices. My team and I found recorded instructions for using our programs and stepped in to give instructions ourselves when necessary. We also invited patients into isolated clinic rooms where they could use devices to connect with their providers.
