Amanda Gorman held the title of nurse and mother before becoming an entrepreneur who is helping new moms with lactation problems.
Gorman is the founder and chief clinical officer of Farmington-based Nest Collaborative, a medical technology company that has established a nationwide network of lactation consultants that offer virtual consultations to new moms in all 50 states.
Consultations are available seven days a week in numerous languages including English, Spanish, Arabic, Hebrew, Portuguese, Urdu, Haitian Creole and Burmese.
Her concept has caught on with insurers, which have begun providing coverage for the services, and investors, which have poured several million dollars into the company.
In June, Nest Collaborative announced a partnership with Trinity Health of New England, which will give new mothers in Connecticut and neighboring Massachusetts telehealth breastfeeding support at no charge.
Gorman earlier this year tapped a new CEO — tech entrepreneur Judith Nowlin — to help scale up Nest Collaborative as it grows its influence and business.
