In one of the largest U.S. healthcare deals of 2022, CVS Health Corp. in September announced plans to buy home healthcare services company Signify Health for $8 billion.

CVS and Signify Health have significant presences in Connecticut. Aetna, based in Hartford, is owned by CVS, and Signify Health has its principal executive offices in Norwalk.

Kyle Armbrester is the CEO of Signify Health and will continue to lead the company once the CVS deal is completed. Karen Lynch was a longtime senior executive at Hartford health insurer Aetna, rising to the president position following the company’s $69-billion merger with Rhode Island-based CVS Health in late 2018.

It didn’t take long for her to impress her new corporate parent company. Lynch last year took over as CVS Health’s CEO and president, replacing the now-retired Larry J. Merlo.

Lynch will continue to be a major player in determining Aetna’s and Signify Health’s future presences in Connecticut. When it bought Aetna, CVS pledged to keep the health insurer’s headquarters in Hartford for at least 10 years and maintain 5,291 employees here for at least four years. What happens after that is anyone’s guess.

Aetna has been one of many corporations in Hartford to embrace remote and hybrid work amid the pandemic.
