Once a leading figure in New York City’s public economic development efforts, Brian Ker founded industrial-focused real estate investment company Snowball Development in 2021.
The Brooklyn-based company purchased three New Jersey properties in 2021 and 2022, and began focusing on Connecticut last year, paying more than $42 million for underused industrial sites with untapped potential.
Ker is particularly interested in sites with surplus acreage that could be turned into outdoor storage.
Snowball has purchased industrial properties ranging from a 50,644-square-foot office and warehouse building in Glastonbury, to a nearly 120,000-square-foot industrial building on 12 acres in South Windsor. The company paid $4.7 million for the Glastonbury building in a sale recorded in April 2022, and $9 million for the South Windsor building earlier this year.
Snowball has also purchased sites in Norwich, Danbury, East Hartford and Watertown.
Ker started his career with a 15-year run at CBRE, where he reached the level of senior vice president before his departure in 2018. He spent three years working for New York City’s nonprofit economic development arm before founding Snowball.
According to its website, Snowball is planning additional ventures in Norwich, South Windsor, Hartford and Wallingford.
