Jessica Fenner is a proud Husky. She holds a master’s degree in social work and bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut.

Recently, she obtained a certificate of nonprofit leadership from the Harvard Kennedy School. Fenner began her fundraising career working for U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT). Currently, she is the associate director of engagement and campaign initiatives at Yale University. Her work directly supports the “for Humanity” campaign, Yale’s most ambitious fundraising effort.

What’s been your biggest professional accomplishment so far in your career?

My work directly supports the “for Humanity” campaign, a campaign designed to equip Yale’s faculty and students with the resources they need to tackle the most critical needs of our time. I am honored to work on behalf of this incredible philanthropic venture.

How are you involved in the community?

Community service is an important part of my life. I am a member of the CT Arts Foundation board of directors and was appointed to this role by Gov. Ned Lamont. I recently joined the Girls on the Run Greater Connecticut board of directors and am a proud Fellow at Yale University.

Why do you deserve to be a 40 Under Forty?

• I am committed to elevating the field of philanthropy and highlighting the incredible work underway in the nonprofit sector.

• I am a proud volunteer and passionate about giving back to communities across the state.

• I will be recognized as a 2024 Connecticut’s Finest Honoree by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s Connecticut Chapter. I was selected for this honor based on my professional successes and philanthropic spirit to join the fight to cure cystic fibrosis.

What do you like to do outside of work?

Outside of work, I enjoy living on the shoreline. I can often be found hiking a new trail or reading a book on the beach. I enjoy trying new restaurants, exploring farmer’s markets and playing pickleball.

Fun Fact

I can always be found with a new book, and am a member of several book clubs across the shoreline.
