Jessica Idleman is the chief financial officer of Fortunato Construction Group, a Connecticut-based commercial construction firm.

She has been with Fortunato for 12 years starting as assistant controller, making her way to chief financial officer. She leads the firm’s accounting department and plays a key role in the organization’s leadership team.

Her guidance has helped the family-owned company transition to a new second generation of leadership. Idleman collaborates with colleagues, clients and partners to facilitate strong, lasting relationships that are the backbone of the company’s success.

What’s been your biggest professional accomplishment so far in your career?

My biggest professional accomplishment has been gaining the trust and respect of my coworkers. I started at Fortunato at age 26 as the assistant controller and a female in the male-dominated construction industry with very little knowledge of construction. I quickly gained the knowledge and skills to be a valued and trusted asset and advisor in many facets of the organization.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I enjoy spending time with family and friends, including my husband, Rob, and my kids, Parker (9) and Maxx (7). I also love spending time with my dogs, enjoying the outdoors and staying active.

Why do you deserve to be a 40 Under Forty?

• Provide leadership to all levels of the organization to empower individuals to make the best decisions possible for both the company and themselves.

• Actively involved in the construction industry and implementing forward-thinking technology and systems to efficiently operate a construction company.

• Balance my passion for my work with enjoying all the little moments life has to offer.

How are you involved in the community?

I pride myself on being an active member and volunteer in my community. I aided in creating an annual scholarship for females pursuing degrees in the architecture, engineering and construction industries, and I help to facilitate a golf tournament benefiting the local charity, Work Vessels for Vets.

Fun Fact

My dream is to rescue elderly dogs and have a farm for them to roam on.
